Ariane de Rothschild

Ariane de Rothschild was born Ariane Langner in San Salvador, El Salvador, in 1965. Her childhood was highly international because of her father's career, and she lived in countries including Colombia, Bangladesh and the former Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo).

She studied commerce in Paris and later obtained an MBA from Pace University in New York. She began her career in financial markets, working as a foreign-exchange and metals trader at Société Générale before moving to AIG.

Ariane joined the Edmond de Rothschild organization in the 1990s and eventually became one of its principal leaders. She took responsibility for the family's non-banking activities, including wine, hospitality and other heritage businesses, before assuming increasingly senior roles in the financial group. In 2023, she became CEO of Edmond de Rothschild.

Ariane de Rothschild was born Ariane Langner on 14 November 1965 in San Salvador. Her father, Gustave Langner, was a German executive in the international pharmaceutical industry, which resulted in the family moving frequently during her childhood.

Growing up in different countries gave her an international outlook and exposure to several languages and cultures. She later became fluent in French, English, Spanish, German and Italian.

After studying commerce in Paris, she obtained an MBA in financial management from Pace University in New York. She subsequently entered the financial industry, initially working in foreign-exchange and metals trading for Société Générale in Australia and New York. She later worked for AIG, where she was involved in developing the company's European operations.

Ariane joined the Rothschild organization in 1993. Her relationship with the family became personal as well as professional when she married Benjamin de Rothschild, son of Edmond and Nadine de Rothschild, in 1999.

She gradually took on responsibility for the family's non-banking activities. In 1997, she took charge of these activities and consolidated them under the Edmond de Rothschild Héritage brand. This included businesses connected with wine, hospitality, agriculture and lifestyle.

In 2006, she joined the board of Edmond de Rothschild Holding. In 2013, she helped bring the family's banking activities together under the single Edmond de Rothschild brand. She became CEO of the group in 2023.

Her husband, Benjamin, died in January 2021. Following his death, Ariane became the principal leader of the family business and continued overseeing both its financial and non-financial activities.

Ariane's childhood was unusually international.

Ariane married Benjamin de Rothschild in 1999.

Benjamin was the son of Baron Edmond de Rothschild and Nadine de Rothschild and was the heir to the Edmond de Rothschild family's business interests.

Ariane subsequently became the principal figure managing the family's business interests, continuing the group's transition into the next generation.

Ariane married Benjamin de Rothschild in 1999.

They had four daughters and lived primarily in the Geneva area of Switzerland, where the family's Château de Pregny estate is located.

Benjamin died on 15 January 2021, aged 57. Following his death, Ariane assumed a substantially greater leadership role in the family's business and philanthropic activities.
