Alexandre Francesco de Rothschild

Alexandre de Rothschild is a French investment banker and member of the seventh generation of the Rothschild banking family. He is currently the Executive Chairman of Rothschild & Co, one of the family’s principal financial businesses.

Alexandre de Rothschild is primarily a banker and investment professional. He built experience in New York and London before joining his family’s financial business in 2008. Over the following decade, he moved through senior management positions and, in 2018, succeeded his father in the firm’s executive leadership.

Alexandre was born into the French branch of the Rothschild family. His father is David de Rothschild, the prominent French banker who played a major role in rebuilding the family’s French banking business after its nationalisation in 1981.

Alexandre’s rise to Executive Chairman represented a generational transition within the French Rothschild business. In 2018, his father David de Rothschild moved to the Supervisory Board, while Alexandre took over the executive leadership of Rothschild & Co Gestion.
This made Alexandre an important figure in the continuation of the Rothschild family’s seventh-generation leadership of the business. Rothschild & Co itself describes Alexandre as part of its current seventh generation of family leadership.

Alexandre graduated from the École Supérieure du Commerce Extérieur (ESCE) in France.

Early career
Before joining the family business, Alexandre developed experience in investment banking and private equity outside Rothschild & Co.
Bear Stearns — New York: He worked in investment banking, particularly in mergers and acquisitions.
Argan Capital — London: He worked in private equity, focusing on acquisitions and the development of European middle-sized companies.
Jardine Matheson — Hong Kong: He worked in a strategy-related role.
These positions gave him experience in investment banking, private equity, financial analysis, acquisitions and portfolio management before he took a senior role within the Rothschild organization.
Joining Rothschild & Co
Alexandre joined Rothschild & Co in 2008, initially concentrating on establishing and developing the group’s Merchant Banking/Five Arrows activities.
